The e-book industry is developing rapidly. Skylight culture, founded in 2004, also launched its own e-book platform, Bookniverse, last year. About 50 local publishers have joined the open platform about a year after its launch. In an interview with reporters, the chairman and chief executive officer of Skylight, Li Weirong, said he hoped that the e-book platform could fill the gap created by the decline in the number of physical bookstores and distribute books globally, to promote Hong Kong publishers and writers around the world. The e-book market is expected to be worth about $8.3 bn between 2022 and 2027, with average annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of 7.7 per cent, according to a report published last year by Japanese company Global Information Service (GII) . Li Weirong said that skylight used a foreign e-book platform (Google Books) earlier, but found that the Google platform was prone to infringement. He ignored the complaints about the skylight, and the percentage was more than 50% . He thought it was unreasonable, therefore, I am determined to set up my own intellectual property platform.
